Last night a lot of Arkansans had the opportunity to listen to the State of the Union Address. If by chance you missed it, don’t worry you’ve heard it all before. Generally speaking you can sum up the President’s speech with the following:

“Bailouts are good. On the day I took office the auto industry was on the verge of collapse. I refused to let that happen.”
Bailouts are terrible. It’s time to apply the same rules from top to bottom.
I intend…I will oppose…I support…I went…I know…I’m President…I’m a Democrat…I…I…I.”

I do not recall any mention of the Keystone Pipeline, nor do I recall the President offering a single free market economic solution. However, the President continued his class warfare rhetoric by reminding all Americans that success is bad and such success should be punished by higher taxes. To him and his minions the idea that someone is successful because of his or her hard work is impossible to accept. Therefore, it is only right that they be punished with a larger tax burden. Never mind that statistics indicate that most millionaires achieved this status after seventeen years of working 70-80 hours per week. Apparently, the President refuses to accept that hard work created this success. Therefore, all millionaires’ success must be the results of some unfair, unnamable advantage that somehow limits everyone else’s opportunity for success.

Just as it has always been, America’s formula for success is hard work, not a government handout. Unfortunately, President Obama doesn’t agree and believes that larger and more intrusive government is the only acceptable answer to our troubles, and he and his Democrat supporters in Congress are willing to bankrupt the country in pursuing their pro-poverty policies.

Last night’s SOTU was a reminder of what happens when America sends Washington insiders to do the people’s business. Last night was a reminder of what happens when we send politicians to Washington instead of representatives who have real life experience. We cannot afford to send another politician to Washington, someone who has never created a job, made a payroll or raised a family. There is a difference between doing and talking, and that is why I decided to run for Congress. I believe it is your turn to have someone to represent your needs in Washington who has created jobs, run a business and raised a family. I believe it is your turn to have someone who has the real life experiences necessary to take Arkansas values to Washington instead of bringing DC values home to Arkansas. I believe it is your turn to have someone who will represent all of the 4th Congressional District instead of a select few.

I am that candidate and I am humbly asking for your vote in May and your support now. Please help me and join our team so we can give our children and grandchildren their future back.

President Obama is in full campaign mode flying from swing state to swing state on taxpayer dollars telling anyone willing to listen that he is pursuing an energy plan that will reduce our dependence on Middle Eastern oil, and that he has a job plan that will provide jobs. However, actions speak louder than words and the recent actions of the President indicate that he is more interested in pleasing his liberal base and saving his own job than creating jobs for Americans.

President Obama’s recent rejection of the Keystone XL Pipeline has caused 60 Arkansas workers to lose their jobs and has endangered 600 Arkansas jobs at the Little Rock-based Welspun Tubular manufacturing company. Unfortunately, President Obama appears willing to sacrifice 20,000 American jobs to save his job.

What about his energy policy? President Obama says he wants energy independence, but does obstructing the Keystone Pipeline project reduce our dependence on unfriendly overseas sources of oil? Of course not. This administration’s only energy policy is to drive up the price of fuel and electricity so high that Americans will accept his crony capitalism and political payback to failed companies such as Solyndra. Every regulation, every legislative proposal has had an adverse affect on real Americans who depend on their vehicles to travel to work, and who depend on their tractors to produce America’s food.

Our nation and our state cannot afford four more years of President Obama, and we cannot afford two more years of politics as usual in Congress. It is time to elect someone who will take Arkansas values to Washington, instead of bringing DC values to Arkansas. We do not need any more politicians selected by their cronies who believe it is more important to send their person instead of sending the right person to Washington.

So if you want someone who has the political courage, the real world experience and the fortitude to stand up for Arkansans, then work with me and let’s win in May and November.

As we approach 2012 I want to share with you a couple of my New Year’s resolutions.

First: Stop the Obama/Pelosi pro-poverty agenda that is destroying jobs in Arkansas. I pledge to do all that I can to put a new leader in the White House.

Second: I will use my real life experience in Washington to fight for all of us. It is your turn to have a Congressman who understands what it takes to raise a family, educate our children and run a business. I know what it takes because just like you I’ve been living here in Arkansas raising a family, and making a living.

The challenges facing our nation demands that Arkansas send someone with the real world experiences necessary to fight “the business as usual D.C. politics.” The crisis facing our nation requires more than just another out of touch politician who believes talk is a substitute for results. Saving our children’s and grandchildren’s future requires more than smiles and cheerleading. These types of politicians are too busy protecting their political future to risk making the hard choices necessary to protect our children’s future.

I believe it is time we send someone to Washington who has the real world experience necessary to know the right choices and the toughness necessary to make the right choices. I have that experience and I have that toughness, and I’m willing to take the political risk to do what is right because our nation’s future is more important than any one person’s political career.

My experiences as a Marine Infantry Officer, football coach and successful small business owner have taught me how to fight and how to win. My credentials separate me from the others in the Congressional field, but the choice is yours. You can send the same “Old Career Politician Want-a-be’s”, and hope for the best, or you can send me someone who will always put your interests not special interests first.

I look forward to meeting you on the campaign trail in 2012. I encourage you to join our team and support me in the Republican primary in May. God Bless.

Merry Christmas… To most of us in the 4th District it is a greeting of hope, a time of celebration, but when it comes to Washington DC there is always controversy.

Recently Congress was reminded that they cannot send taxpayer paid mail to their constituents if it has a Christmas greeting. You know — the usual argument about separation of church and state. My question is this? With a 15 trillion dollar debt why is any taxpayer money being spent on Congressional self-promotional mail outs? I know the savings will be small but how about a little leadership by example and not spend taxpayer money just because you can. I learned early on as a business owner that when revenues are down you cut costs, and you do not raise prices on your customers. Too many in government believe taking the opposite approach of higher spending and of higher taxes is the formula for recovery. Historically, such an approach has failed every time it has been attempted, and it is failing now.

Anyway, that is enough politics. Let’s get back to Merry Christmas and the hope that it brings to all who celebrate the birth of Jesus. This Christmas I think most of us will focus on the blessings we have such as family, friends and a nation like no other. These are the real gifts and we are truly grateful for these blessings.

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. God bless each of you and God bless the United States of America.

When speaking to Arkansans from the 4th District, one subject comes up in every conversation: Jobs!

Everyone everywhere wants Congress to do something to end the pro-poverty policies of President Obama. People are tired of excuses, and political posturing. They know the difference between talk and action and are tired of political double speak that tries to convince them that talk is action.

I believe there is no substitute for real world experience, and that is what I will bring to the Fourth Congressional District. Thirty-four years of experience leading Marines, running businesses, creating jobs, making payrolls and solving problems. You need a proven leader and job creator to reverse the excessive regulations that are strangling our private sector. It is time to send someone to represent the needs of the Fourth District that understands that the government does not create jobs but only consumes resources. The private sector is the only source of real economic growth. Government’s role should be limited to the facilitation of this economic growth.

My economic plan for the Fourth District will focus on the growth-killing regulations of the Obama administration starting with the repeal of Obamacare. My economic plan will focus on creating a real energy plan for the exploration and development of our nation’s energy resources so that we will no longer be held hostage by energy producing nations that are inherently unfriendly towards America. My jobs plan will seek to reform the tax code to encourage businesses to stay in the Fourth District instead of rewarding them for taking their companies overseas. The goal of my jobs plan is to provide real growth and opportunity here so our children will not have to move somewhere else to find work.

It is decision time in the Fourth District. You can keep sending politicians with no real life experience and hope for the best or you can send someone who is willing to take the political risk and tell the American people the truth. Our future is not destiny…It is a choice.

As part of my 100 businesses in 100 days tour of Arkansas’ 4th Congressional District, I traveled to Little Rock and spoke to Dr. Mark Riley and Mrs. Debra Shepard. We discussed the difficulties small pharmacy owners throughout the state are having coping with increased government regulations, higher costs of pharmaceutical products, and smaller government reimbursement for services provided.

It is apparent that these small business owners are burdened by excessive government regulations while the same regulations ensure Pharmacy Benefit Providers enjoy record profits. Small business owners cannot afford to employ large staffs to handle all the paperwork that must be completed to ensure compliance with government regulations. Therefore some of these pharmacies are being forced to close their doors.

Dr. Riley and Mrs. Shepard pointed out that each time a pharmacy closes its doors the whole community suffers. Pharmacies in the 4th District often provide health service to what would otherwise be an underserved community. The vanishing of these small businesses limits patient choice causing higher prices and inferior service. (this last sentence was completely restructured.)

The local pharmacy on the corner is more than a business; it is a trusted member of the community whose owner provides jobs, knows his customers and provides personal service that cannot be replaced by large corporations or mail orders. The people the pharmacist serves are his friends, they attend church together, and watch their kids and grandkids play ball. Dr. Riley made it clear that Arkansas pharmacy owners are not looking for a government bailout — far from it. They are only looking for a level playing field that allows them to provide their services to the community. They welcome reasonable regulations that protect the consumer. Unfortunately it appears that most existing government regulations allow the middleman to enjoy record profits while limiting competition.

As your congressman, I will pursue a course of action that provides relief to all small businesses from the burden of government regulations. I know some government regulations are necessary but no regulation should create an unfair advantage for one business group over another. The 4th District’s future depends on encouraging the growth of small businesses. It is time to send someone to DC who will work to dismantle President Obama’s pro-poverty policies and replace them with a real plan for economic growth.
